Nourishing Mealtimes at The Old Vicarage

At The Old Vicarage, we put a lot of care into making mealtimes something our residents can genuinely enjoy, rather than just another part of the daily routine. Food is a hugely enjoyable and important part of everyday life—not just for nourishment, but for comfort, familiarity, and routine.

Mealtimes also offer a natural opportunity for people to come together, have a chat, and enjoy a bit of company, which can make a real difference to the day. With that in mind, we try to create a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere where residents can enjoy good food in good company, in a way that feels comfortable and unhurried.

Our Passionate Kitchen Team

Our chefs and kitchen team are not only highly experienced but also genuinely passionate about what they do, and that really comes through in every dish they prepare. There’s a real sense of pride in the kitchen, where fresh ideas are always bubbling away alongside the saucepans.

  • Head Chef – Tim Hardy: At the heart of it all, bringing skill, creativity, and a genuine love of good food to the table every single day.

  • Nutritionist – Kirsty Hamilton Smith: Ensures our meals are healthy, varied, and well-balanced.

Fresh, Seasonal, Locally Sourced Menus

Our menus are thoughtfully put together using fresh, seasonal ingredients, with as much sourced locally as possible—even from our own gardens and resident chickens!

Nutrition for Health and Wellbeing

Good nutrition is so important for everyone, but it is especially important for older people and those living with dementia. A balanced diet can help to:

  • Boost energy levels

  • Improve mood and brain function

  • Support overall health and wellbeing

Tim takes huge pride in serving up delicious, well-balanced meals that are tailored to suit individual tastes and needs. He and the team take time to listen to residents’ preferences, favourite dishes, and even the occasional request for something a bit nostalgic or comforting.

A Welcoming Dining Experience

Whether residents prefer a quiet meal in their room or a catch-up with friends in one of our cosy dining spaces, the environment and experience is welcoming, warm and delicious!
