Choosing a care home for someone close to you is never easy. Situations can change quickly, and it can be hard to know what the right answer is. Since taking over The Old Vicarage, my focus has been simple — to create a home where people feel genuinely cared for, comfortable, and valued.
The Old Vicarage sits in a beautiful village near the River Thames and has a long-standing reputation for excellent residential and dementia care. What makes it so special is the team. Many have been here for over 15 years, and their experience, warmth, and commitment to residents is extraordinary.
We’re investing in the home carefully and thoughtfully. Alongside a full redecoration, we’ve introduced a new chef and nutritionist, expanded activities, added adapted trikes and a wheelchair-accessible minibus, and created more opportunities for residents to get out, stay active, and enjoy daily life.
We’ve also increased staffing so residents have more time and support from the people caring for them. A new exercise specialist and dedicated dementia coordinator are now part of the team too, helping us provide more personalised care for every resident.
I believe later life should still feel rich, familiar, and full of enjoyment — and that families should feel confident they’ve found the right place for the person they love.

Hello Charlie,
Thank you for your kind words and thoughts.
Once again a big swell of thanks to you and all your team. You have been outstanding.
If you need any endorsements for advertising purposes I am happy to oblige.
Victoria mentioned that you be introducing volunteers to assist with reading to residents etc. When the dust settles this is something I would be interested in doing.
Very best wishes, Andrea
“Thank you” is an inadequate phrase for expressing the depth of gratitude we feel to each and everyone of you for your role in looking after our father and grandfather. Your care and kindess to him and to us is greatly appreciated.
Much love Sarah, Jon, Michael, John, Karen, Tania, Jessie, Matthew, Luke, AJ, John & Jane Marie.
The biggest thank you for all the love and care you gave our mum. You wrapped her up in tenderness and cheerfulness that nourished her and made her find time with you so calm and peaceful. We are forever grateful for all your help and friendship over the years.
Lots of love Jaquie, Joe & Sally.
I can’t thank you enough for your care of Mummy over the past 10 years. We always felt that she was so loved and held a special place in the hearts of so many of you. Thank you too for making our time with her in her final hours last week as calm and as easy as they could be. We are going to miss her terribly.
I will miss my visits to The Old Vicarage, everyone was always so friendly and welcoming. Jane.
Thank you for your wonderful kindness and care of Tony over 4 plus years. Knowing just how well he was cared for by you all, helped us all during this demanding time.
To all of the staff at The Old Vicarage - a heart felt thank you from all of the Tony Ridlely family.
Thank you so much to the thought, time and effort you put in to making Mum’s landmark birthday so special.
Our family and Mum’s friends were so appreciative of your kindness and great welcome. We have warm memories of the day we spent together.
With kindest regards Claire & Alison.
I am writing to thank you for all you did to make Connie’s life enjoyable at the end of her days. She has the highest praise for you. She loved the way you were so creative and decorated the home so beautifully. And she really enjoyed your activities once she has plucked up the courage to join in! You are so caring and wonderful, thank you.
With love Philippa, Hilary & Dennis.
Thank you very much for all your kindness yesterday. You are so thoughtful. It was a lovely surprise to see the photo of Mum holding the terrapin, together with the pretty vase of daffodils - and to drink sherry!
And lovely to see Mum’s friends watching the tree planting in the sunshine.
I will miss coming to see you all.
With love Philippa xx
